"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Tension gripped Ward 19 of Uttarpara after a property dispute turned violent, leaving at least two people injured. The clash, reported from the Lawrence Street area, involved allegations of forcible entry into a locked house amid an ongoing legal dispute, escalating into a physical confrontation between both sides.
According to reports, a group allegedly broke open the lock of a house in an attempt to take possession of the disputed property. When the move was resisted, the situation quickly spiralled into violence. One individual sustained a serious head injury after being struck with an iron rod, while a woman from the opposing side was also assaulted and suffered head injuries during the clash.
Both injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at the local hospital. The incident has heightened tensions in the area, particularly in the run-up to elections, raising concerns over law and order in the locality.
Promoter Manoj Malu alleged that a group of women armed with bamboo sticks forcefully entered the property and attacked his workers when they intervened. However, the accused woman filed a counter-complaint, claiming that land grabbers were attempting to take control of her house and that she was assaulted in the process. Police reached the spot, brought the situation under control, and stated that strict action will be taken against any form of violence during the election period.
